WINGS STAFF

Thomson McCorkle
Executive Director
Thomson McCorkle is a native of Montgomery, AL, and a graduate of Lewis and Clark College. He started as Executive Director of Wings Across Alabama (“Wings”) in January 2017, the same year he became a Certified Peer Specialist (CPS). With his leadership, Wings has grown from four (4) CPS employees to over fifteen (15) CPS contractors and employees, and that number is expected to continue to grow. Proudly, Wings is one of the largest employers of CPS in Alabama. With the help of his wonderful and diverse staff, he was able to shift all Wings’ programs to virtual (phone/online) to better serve consumers in Alabama during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Programs include a statewide Warm Line, an art program boasting multimedia art, the Action Planning for Prevention and Recovery course to prevent relapse, and a CPS support group system. Wings have also focused on its digital footprint and reach by developing a new website and increased social media efforts. Under Thomson’s leadership, Wings has created a staff position and program dedicated to growing and expanding the CPS industry. Thomson has presented to a national audience about this nascent program.
Thomson currently serves as a member of the: Alabama Mental Illness Planning Council, Alabama Department of Mental Health (ADMH) Mental Illness Coordinating Subcommittee (MICS), ADMH Steering Committee, ADMH Advocacy Advisory Board, People Advocating for Individuals with Mental Illness (PAIMI) Council, Supported Employment Coordinating Committee (SECC), and Working Interdisciplinary Network of Guardianships and Stakeholders Council.

Leigh Few

In 2004, she became a full-time employee of the agency and has worked there for the past 18 years as a child and adult case manager, day treatment coordinator, internal advocate, Certified Peer Specialist and Peer Support Coordinator. Recently, Leigh reduced her hours at the mental health center so that she could pursue an exciting new opportunity as the Peer Programs Coordinator for NAMI Alabama. She also serves as the Support Group Supervisor for Wings Across Alabama where she develops the curriculum for CPS support groups across the state. She loves meeting and working with so many amazing people throughout the state. Leigh and her husband celebrated their 20th anniversary in November of 2021, and they have three amazing children. They also have a 14 yr. old mini shih tzu, Chloe Lou, who is their baby. Leigh has a B.S. degree in Education from the University of Montevallo and is currently pursuing her Master’sdegree.
