Sarge has always had a soft spot for helping humans, so much so that he was trained as a therapy dog and quickly rose to the top of his class. Like his human, Sarge suffers from anxiety, so despite his excellent scores and passing all his tests with flying colors, his anxiety around other animals prevented him from being cleared to volunteer in hospitals. Instead, Sarge turned his attention to his favorite human, Jamie. He learned, with no prompting, how her anxiety affected her, as well as her health conditions, and how best to help her through those moments. Sarge became officially registered as an ESA (Emotional Support Animal) and is now the Wings Across Alabama mascot! He works hard to try to break the stigma of mental health concerns through Instagram and Facebook by posting videos and pictures to remind humans that they are not alone in their struggles. Even dogs struggle with mental health. Let’s become better, together. Follow Sarge on Instagram @pawsitivelysarge and Facebook Pawsitively Sarge. Do you have an extra special ESA that you would like to share with the Peers Across Alabama community? Feel free to share any special pictures and tell us what makes you special to them and vice versa! 🐶🐕🦮🐩🐕‍🦺🐾
