Mental Health 101

Mental Health 101 is a collection of “how-to” videos containing practical information about how to navigate public benefits and resources.  Mental Health 101 is designed to support peers in pursuit of agency and independence. 

Objectives:

  • Access practical information regarding necessary public services
  • Support ongoing journey toward independence
  • Assist with maintaining recovery and preventing relapse

This free course will help you gain information and knowledge in planning for your own needs and maintaining agency and independence in making your own choices.

Learning Modules

MODULE 1: APPLYING FOR FEDERAL STUDENT AID FOR COLLEGE, UNIVERSITY, OR TRADE SCHOOL

In this module you will learn about applying for federal student aid for college, university, or trade school.  The FAFSA form is required for free federal grants, as well as federal student loans and funding awarded through your institution, such as scholarships and additional grants.

Visit StudentAid.Gov for complete instructions and access to the FAFSA form.

You may also visit the Federal Student Aid YouTube Channel for additional instructional videos for completing and submitting your FAFSA form. 

MODULE 2: HOUSING

In this module you will receive information regarding the Housing Choice Voucher Program and Public Housing.  This information was taken from the HUD website and you should contact your local Housing Authority Office to get more information regarding your specific case.

MODULE 3:SOCIAL SECURITY INCOME (SSI)

This module provides information about applying for Social Security Income (SSI).  Please check out Social Security’s YouTube page for more informational recordings.
